Bowen Therapy

Bowen Technique is a gentle manipulation of the muscles of the body, intended to trigger the nervous system to begin a process of self-healing. Each series of moves on the muscles, tendons, and nerves, is followed by a pause to allow the body to integrate the information. The objective of each treatment is to restore the normal, healthy and balanced functioning of the body.

The Bowen Technique has its origins in the work done by Tom Bowen in the mid-1970’s in Australia. The Bowen Technique has become part of an osteopathic service of soft tissue manipulation. It is often characterized as a combination of massage and acupressure, a neuromuscular reflex therapy.

The core of our alternatives to acupuncture is The Bowen Technique: a hands-on holistic method, leveraging a number of specialized osteopathic techniques. It is based on the gentle and precise manipulation of fascia, nerves and muscle tissue that allows the nervous system to begin the process of self-healing. This process typically will continue for several days after the treatment.

The benefits of Bowen Technique are very similar to those of Acupuncture but without the use of Needles, which some may find uncomfortable with Acupuncture.

Niromathe Method

In addition to the Bowen Technique, we also practice the Niromathe Method for dealing with osteopathic lesions.

The Niromathe Method finds its origin in the work performed by “bone setters” in ancient India. It was further researched and developed in Europe. This technique is known in the world of osteopathy and manual therapy as a unique and effective process, that improves blood flow, and releases the fascia around muscles and joints where an osteopathic lesion has formed.

Niromathe Method is a less invasive means to deal with osteopathic lesions of all forms via the manipulation of the skin.

Bowen therapy can be described by terms such as ‘multidimensional’ and ‘holistic,’ is effective at dealing with problems that conventional treatment plans can’t help with. These problems include backaches, migraines, and muscle pain. Many people use Bowen therapy in Burnaby to relieve sports injuries, frozen shoulders, and more.

Bowen therapy usually begins with basic exercises where the practitioner gently rolls their thumb or finger over your muscles and surrounding connective tissues located in the back and neck areas. After this, the patients close their eyes and relax for a few minutes.

This break is very important because it gives the body and brain systems some time to communicate with each other and heal – hence the term ‘therapy.’ Bowen therapy restores the synergy between the body and mind. To better facilitate this ‘connection,’ our practitioners use precision techniques to achieve the desired result.

Bowen therapy classes in Burnaby can be used to address various symptoms that are common with musculoskeletal, neurological, circulatory, and digestive disorders, including TMJ, migraines, and fibromyalgia among others.

Below are just a few benefits of the Bowen technique:

  • Improved mobility
  • Elevated mood
